Robert Lewandowski is being linked with a move to the Premier League with both Manchester United and Chelsea chasing the Bayern Munich hitman.
Lewandowski has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe over the past few years having scored 151 goals in 195 games since making a controversial move from Borussia Dortmund to Bayern in 2014.
However, the Polish international’s future at the Allianz Arena is in serious doubt as he went public with his desire to leave this summer in search of a fresh start. Agent Pini Zahavi confirmed the stunning news two weeks ago and revealed that he’s already informed the Bayern hierarchy of Lewandowski’s decision to leave.
Zahavi is quoted by TeamTalk as saying:
“Robert feels he needs a change and a new challenge in his career. The managers of Bayern know about it.”
This revelation alerted Chelsea and United as the report says the Premier League duo have both registered their interest in signing the striker this summer. Jose Mourinho needs competition for Romelu Lukaku up front while Chelsea could view Lewandowski as a potential replacement for Alvaro Morata amid speculation linking him with a move this summer.
However, Lewandowski has suitors galore this transfer period, being courted by not just English powers Chelsea and Man United, but also Spanish giants Real Madrid. The latest reports, however, have the 29-year-old Pole staying put at Bayern Munich, despite the club’s continued Champions League futility. As a result, United and Chelsea’s early odds according to Sports Betting Dime to win the 2018-19 Premier League title remain at 13/2 and 12/1, respectively, well behind title-holders Man City, who are prohibitive 2/3 favorites.
Those odds would fall considerably if either club were able to land Lewandowski but he still has three years left on his contract and Bayern are reportedly demanding around £175m for his signature so a deal is going to be difficult to pull off.
