Transfer News: Arsenal, Liverpool Battle To Sign Brazilian | Tottenham Make £44m Bid
Transfer news: Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with Brazilian attacker Bernard while Tottenham make their move for Benjamin Pavard…
The summer transfer window is in full swing and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with Bernard while Tottenham make their move for Benjamin Pavard…
Arsenal and Liverpool battling to sign Bernard
First up and according to reports in Italy via the Mirror, Arsenal and Liverpool are battling it out with Everton over the free transfer signing of Brazilian winger Bernard this summer.
The 25-year-old made his name in Europe during an impressive five-year spell at Shakhtar Donetsk where he provided 28 goals and 35 assists in 157 appearances to help win 3 Ukrainian league titles and 6 domestic cups.
However, his contract expired at the end of June meaning he’s now a free agent after refusing to sign an extension with the Ukrainian giants and he’s attracted interest from the Premier League.
Premium Sport, via the Mirror, claim Bernard has snubbed a move to Italy as he wants to play in England and is now deciding whether to join Arsenal, Liverpool or Everton after the trio all expressed their interest in signing him.
The winger has been capped 14 times by Brazil and is a versatile player who can play anywhere across the attacking positions so he’d be a useful addition for Jurgen Klopp or Unai Emery.

Liverpool can offer Champions League football but he’d arguably have a better chance of regular first team football at Arsenal so it will be interesting to see who Bernard opts for if he does secure a move to England this summer.
Tottenham table Pavard bid
Next up and TeamTalk are reporting that Tottenham have formalised their interest in Benjamin Pavard after testing Stuttgart’s resolve with a £44m bid for the defender.
Pavard has been a rising star since joining Stuttgart from Lille two years ago and enjoyed a superb World Cup after starting for France at right-back en route to their stunning triumph in Russia this summer.
However, the 22-year-old is predominantly a centre-back and TeamTalk claims Mauricio Pochettino has identified Pavard as the ideal replacement for Toby Alderweireld – who’s expected to leave the north Londoners.
The report says Spurs believe Alderweireld is likely to join Manchester United after failing to sign a new contract and they are ready to cash-in if a sizable offer is submitted as he’ll be available for just £25m next summer.
TeamTalk claims Tottenham have now stepped-up their pursuit of Pavard after tabling a formal £44m bid but it remains to be seen whether Stuttgart will sell as he’s still under contract until 2021.
His deal does include a release clause worth around £31m but that can’t be activated until the summer of 2019 so the Bundesliga club must decide whether to cash-in now or risk losing Pavard for less money in 12 months.

It will be interesting to see how things develop but I think Pavard would be an excellent signing if Tottenham could manage to get a deal agreed and lure him to north London this summer.
