There is plenty of Manchester United gossip doing the rounds in the papers with the English giants linked with a whole host of star names. Today, United could sign Jerome Boateng…
Manchester United have been told they can sign Bayern Munich star Jerome Boateng for £50m as the Red Devils step-up their search for a new centre-back, according to the Daily Mail.
Jose Mourinho has vented his frustration at the clubs lack of activity in the transfer market so far as United have only signed third-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant, young full-back Diogo Dalot and midfielder Fred – who’s the only one of the trio likely to be a regular this season.
The Portuguese coach has admitted he’s hoping to bring in two further additions to his squad before the window slams shut next week and a central defender is believed to be a priority as doubts remain over Phil Jones and Chris Smalling while Marcos Rojo and Victor Lindelof are being linked with moves this summer.
United have reportedly held talks over Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire and Yerry Mina in recent weeks but Boateng has also been touted as a prime target by the media and it seems the Manchester giants have been given the chance to sign the 2014 World Cup winner.
The Daily Mail claims Bayern Munich are actively looking to sell the 29-year-old after he expressed his desire to seek a new challenge this summer and the Bundesliga champions have informed United a deal can be done at £50m.
Boateng’s proposed move to Paris Saint-Germain has stalled so Bayern are looking for a new buyer and it appears they’ve offered Manchester United the chance to sign the former Manchester City defender.
The German international has been one of the best centre-backs in the world over the past few years and has won a whole host of honours including 6 Bundesliga titles, 4 domestic cups and the Champions League during his time at the Allianz Arena.
However, the newspaper says United may be reluctant to meet his £50m asking price given the player is approaching 30 and Bayern have rejected the idea of taking Anthony Martial as part-exchange.
