The summer transfer window is drawing to a close and managers are working hard to secure last minute deals so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal have bid for Lucas Vazquez…
Arsenal have tabled a firm £35.6m bid to sign Lucas Vazquez but Real Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui is determined to hang on to the attacker, according to reports via TeamTalk.
Unai Emery has been busy revamping his newly-inherited squad this summer and has already spent around £70m on five new signings with goalkeeper Bernd Leno, centre-back Sokratis, right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner and midfield pair Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi all arriving recently.
However, Emery is still hoping to strengthen his attacking options before the window shuts and he’s ready to sell the likes of Joel Campbell, Lucas Perez and Chuba Akpom to raise extra funds having already blown his initial transfer budget.
We’ve been linked with Ousmane Dembele in recent weeks but it seems Barcelona are reluctant to let the 21-year-old French international leave this summer so Arsenal are looking at alternative targets.
TeamTalk are citing a report from Don Balon that claims Emery is now showing a keen interest in signing Vazquez and Arsenal chiefs have offered to pay £35.6m [€40m] to sign the Spanish international from Madrid.
The winger has been with Madrid his entire career after coming through their youth ranks but he’s struggled to establish himself as a regular since breaking in to the first team in 2015 and made just 16 starts last season.
The 27-year-old was named in the Spanish squad for the World Cup and while he’s predominantly a right winger, Vazquez is capable of playing on either flank so he’d be a very useful addition to the squad if Arsenal could get a deal agreed.
However, that won’t be easy as Don Balon, via TeamTalk, says new Madrid boss Julen Lopetegui is determined to keep hold of Vazquez as the former Spain coach sees the winger as an important part of his team this coming season.
President Florentino Perez has the final say on transfer matters so he could yet decide to overrule his manager and cash-in on Vazquez but that seems unlikely as they need to keep hold of their attackers following the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus.

We’ll have to see how things develop over the coming days but I hope Arsenal manage to land a winger as we desperately need to add some width to the squad before the window closes on August 9th.
