Chelsea are ready to trump Liverpool with a late swoop for £35m-rated Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey before the transfer window shuts on Thursday, according to the Express.

Ramsey’s long-term future at the Emirates Stadium is in serious doubt as he’s entered the final year of his contract and is yet to agree terms over an extension despite his representatives holding extensive talks with the north Londoners over the past few months.

Unai Emery is desperate to keep hold of Ramsey as the Welsh international has been a key player for Arsenal having provided 59 goals and 57 assists in 331 appearances since joining from boyhood club Cardiff City 10 years ago and he scored some vital goals to help win 3 FA Cup’s in the last five seasons.

However, reports suggest Arsenal chiefs are prepared to cash-in on the 27-year-old if he doesn’t commit his future to the club before the season starts as they don’t want a repeat of last years fiasco involving Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

The situation has alerted Liverpool as the Express reported last week that Jurgen Klopp is showing a keen interest in signing Ramsey although the Merseysiders may be prepared to wait 12 months to sign him on a free transfer as they’ve already snapped-up Fabinho and Naby Keita this summer.

However, the newspaper is now reporting today that Chelsea are ready to trump Liverpool by launching a late swoop to try and lure Ramsey to Stamford Bridge during the closing stages of the window.

Maurizio Sarri has admitted he’s in the market for another midfielder and the Express claim the Blues boss has turned his attention to Ramsey after missing out on a number of other key targets.

I’m sure Arsenal are still desperately trying to persuade the midfielder to sign a new deal at the Emirates but if a breakthrough isn’t found soon they may have to sell and the report suggests an offer of £35m would be enough to get a deal agreed.
