Aaron Ramsey is demanding showdown talks with Arsenal boss Unai Emery as Liverpool and Manchester United eye January bids for the contract rebel, according to reports via TeamTalk.

Ramsey has been a vital part of the Arsenal first team in recent years and has provided 59 goals and 57 assists in his 333 appearances to help win 3 FA Cup’s since moving to north London from boyhood club Cardiff City ten years ago.

However, the Welsh international’s future at the Emirates is in serious doubt as he’s in the final year of his current contract and is struggling to find an agreement over an extension despite his representatives holding extensive talks with Arsenal’s hierarchy.

Emery has publicly said he wants to keep Ramsey but surprisingly axed the midfielder for Arsenal’s 3-2 defeat at Chelsea last weekend and the decision doesn’t appear to have helped the on-going contract stand-off.

TeamTalk are citing a report from the Sun that claims Ramsey wants to hold talks with Emery to see how he fits in to his first team plans and get reassurances from the Arsenal boss before he even contemplates committing his future to the club.

Emery prefers to play two holding midfielders in his formation and with Ramsey an attacking box-to-box type, it seems the Welshman is competing with Mesut Ozil for the number 10 position this season.

Even if Emery convinces Ramsey he’s a key part of his plans they still need to find an agreement over a new deal and the Evening Standard reported earlier this week that the 27-year-old wants to double his wages to around £220,000-a-week.

Arsenal are under pressure to lower their wage bill – which stands at a record £200m – so they appear reluctant to sanction another big pay-rise for a player that is yet to cement himself in Emery’s first team plans.

The situation has alerted rival Premier League clubs with the report claiming that Liverpool and Manchester United are ready to launch formal bids to sign Ramsey in January if he doesn’t sign a new deal at the Emirates.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but if Arsenal refuse to do business for Ramsey this winter, Liverpool and United could wait until next summer to snap him up on a free transfer.
