Arsenal are eyeing a January swoop for Celtic striker Moussa Dembele as Unai Emery continues to overhaul the squad he inherited from Arsene Wenger, according to the Mirror.
Emery splashed out around £70m on five new signings this summer with goalkeeper Bernd Leno, right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner, centre-back Sokratis and midfield duo Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira all arriving as the Spaniard put his own stamp on the squad.
However, Arsenal slumped to disappointing defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea during our opening two games of the new season and although a 3-1 victory over West Ham on Saturday got our first three points on the board, it’s clear the squad needs further work if we’re to compete for major honours.
It appears Emery is now ready to strengthen his attacking options when the January transfer window opens, if reports are to be believed, as the Mirror are reporting that Arsenal are plotting a move for Celtic hitman Dembele.
The French striker came through the youth ranks at Paris Saint-Germain and has developed in to one of the hottest young strikers in British football since joining Celtic from Fulham in 2016.
Arsenal were linked with Dembele last summer and the newspaper suggests we could now renew our interest ahead of the winter window as Emery looks to add more pace to our ranks.
The Daily Star claims Celtic will demand around £20m for Dembele but Arsenal could be trumped to his signature as Ligue 1 outfit Marseille are lining-up a late swoop to land the striker before the end of the month.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I find these reports surprising as another striker is probably the last thing Arsenal should be spending £20m on. We already have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang while Alexandre Lacazette is currently on the bench so I don’t see where Dembele would fit in.

Arsenal certainly need some pace in attack but I’d suggest we should be targetting a winger rather than another striker – or better yet, put the £20m towards buying a world class centre-back to sort our defence out!
