Eden Hazard was the architect as Chelsea moved to the top of the Premier League table with a 3-0 victory over Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium this afternoon.
Chelsea looked fresh after most of their starting eleven was rested for the midweek Europa League win over Vidi and the visitors opened the scoring midway through the first half as Eden Hazard fired home after being teed-up by Ross Barkley in the 30th minute.
Maurizio Sarri’s men doubled their advantage early in the second period as Barkley was on hand to bundle home at the far post in the 57th minute after Olivier Giroud had acrobatically sent the ball across goal.
There was no way back for Southampton and Chelsea wrapped-up the win in stoppage time as Alvaro Morata lifted the ball over McCarthy to make it 3-0 after being send clear by Hazard in the 93rd minute.
The victory sends Chelsea to the top of the Premier League table ahead of Liverpool’s heavyweight clash with Manchester City at Anfield this afternoon.
