The transfer window is closed but managers are already planning ahead for January and next summer so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip. Today, Liverpool are readying a bid for Nicolo Barella…
Liverpool are preparing a formal offer to sign Nicolo Barella with Jurgen Klopp desperate to take the £30m-rated Cagliari midfielder to Anfield, according to reports in Italy via talkSPORT.
Barella joined Cagliari as a youngster and has developed in to one of the hottest young talents in Italian football since progressing through the youth ranks to become a first team regular last season while he has also represented Italy at every youth level from U15 through to U21.
The 21-year-old has played every minute of Cagliari’s nine games in all competitions so far this season and his potential has caught the attention of Liverpool scouts with the Merseysiders linked with a move for Barella over the past year.
Reports in recent days suggested Liverpool were leading the chase to sign the talented youngster next summer and it seems Klopp is now ready to finally make his move for Barella as talkSPORT are citing a report from La Nuova Sardegna that claims Liverpool are putting together a formal offer.
The report says Klopp has identified the Italian midfielder as a key signing ahead of next summer and wants to add Barella to his squad after sending scouts to keep a close eye on him but a deal is still some way off at this point.
talkSPORT suggests that Barella is valued at around £30m, however, the Italian outlet claims Cagliari will demand a fee closer to £44m [€50m] so it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will be able to strike a deal.
The Reds have an array of midfielders on their books after signing Fabinho and Naby Keita last summer but with James Milner coming towards the end of his career and Jordan Henderson hampered by injuries in recent years Klopp may be eyeing Barella as a long-term solution.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming months but the youngster is a huge talent and represented Italy at senior level during their 1-1 draw with Ukraine last week so he has a big future ahead of him and would be an exciting signing if Liverpool could pull it off.
