Arsenal & Spurs Stars Called-Up For International Duty To Replace Injured Man Utd Duo
Arsenal and Tottenham players have been called up by France to replace injured Manchester United duo Anthony Martial and Paul Pobga.
Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette and Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko have been called up by France to replace injured Manchester United duo Anthony Martial and Paul Pobga.
United were forced to make-do without Pogba during Sunday’s Manchester derby after the midfielder picked up a knock during their dramatic Champions League victory over Juventus in Turin four days earlier. The 25-year-old was unable to train ahead of the game at the Etihad Stadium and had to watch from the stands after being ruled out of selection.
Martial completed the full ninety minutes against City and scored from the penalty spot early in the second half to pull the score back to 2-1 before Ilkay Gundogan scored late on to wrap-up a 3-1 victory for Pep Guardiola’s men.
However, it seems Martial must have picked up a knock against City as the attacker has now joined Pogba in being withdrawn from the France squad ahead of their Nations League clash with Holland and the friendly with Uruguay during the international break.
Lacazette has been called-up to replace Martial after enjoying a solid campaign so far that’s seen him score 6 goals and provide a further 4 assists in his 15 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal. The striker will be keen to impress after narrowly missing out on a place in the French World Cup squad in the summer.
Sissoko also missed out on a replace in Didier Deschamps squad for Russia 2018 but the midfielder has been rewarded for some excellent recent form with Tottenham by being called-up to replace Pogba.
The London-based duo will be hoping to get some game-time as France take on Holland on Friday night looking to cement their position at the top of League A Group 1 before the World Champions take on Uruguay in a friendly at the Stade de France next Tuesday.
Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial ruled out of international duty with France due to injury. Moussa Sissoko and Alexandre Lacazette called up instead.
