England will play an experimental side when they welcome the United States of America to Wembley for their friendly on Thursday night.

Much of the pre-match talk has centered around Wayne Rooney’s controversial call-up as the former Manchester United striker is set to be handed his 120th cap, despite calling time on his international career last year.

The 33-year-old is back in the squad to honour his superb service to his country that saw him become England’s all-time top goalscorer with 53 goals and the match against the USA will be special as Rooney now ply’s his trade in the MLS with D.C. United. Check how to bet on the MLS and the D.C United.

Gareth Southgate will use the game to prepare for Sunday’s crucial Nations League group game with Croatia and he’ll be hoping to maintain the momentum that’s been built around the national team in recent months.

England did well to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup in Russia this summer and they beat Spain 3-2 in a thriller last month so there is certainly a feel-good factor around the Three Lions right now.

Team News

Rooney won’t start but he’s expected to be introduced in the second half as Southgate prepares to hand debuts to the likes of Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson and Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

Fabian Delph will captain the inexperienced side with Lewis Dunk, Ben Chillwell and Michael Keane all expected to feature in defence while Harry Winks and Dele Alli could also be given starts.

The likes of John Stones, Eric Dier, Marcus Rashford, Harry Kane and Kyle Walker will be rested ahead of the Croatia game.

Betting Tips

For those betting on the match, it’s worth heading over to footballbettingsites.ltd to check out the best odds and welcome offers to make sure you make the most of your money as it’s going to be difficult to find value in this game. England have won seven of the last 10 meetings with the USA and have lost just one of their last 23 games on home soil so it’s easy to see why they are the red hot 1/4 favourites to win.

That won’t be of interest to most punters but I don’t see many backing the USA to win, even at odds of 12/1, while the draw is only slightly more appealing at 9/2, but I can’t see past a home win tonight.

England are sure to score past a vulnerable defence but the USA have also scored in seven of their last eight games so I fancy them to get on the score-sheet too. England to win 3-1 at odds of 10/1 is tempting but a more secure bet is England to win and both teams to score at 23/10.
