‘No Clean Sheet’ – Sky Sports Pundit Offers Score Prediction For Liverpool v Everton

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has made his prediction ahead of this weekend’s Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool head in to the game off the back of a hugely disappointing 2-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the group stages of the Champions League that leaves their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages hanging in the balance.

However, the Reds are in great shape in the Premier League as last weekend’s 3-0 win at Watford maintained their second-placed position in the table and they’ll want to keep the pressure on leaders Manchester City with another victory tomorrow.

Merson feels Liverpool were ‘all over the place’ at the back against a dangerous PSG attack but is predicting them to have more joy against an Everton side that he feels will be content to sit back and defend at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

However, the Sky Sports pundit believes there is no chance Everton will be able to defend the entire game and keep a clean sheet, despite holding Chelsea to a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge last week, so he’s predicting Liverpool to ease to a 2-0 win over their Mersey rivals.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said:

Liverpool vs Everton

Liverpool were all over the place against PSG, which shows you how good that front three is. It’s a good back four at Liverpool now but they were in trouble.

I expect them to win though, I saw Everton at Chelsea a couple of weeks ago, they were solid but Chelsea were poor and still had three good chances and if they’d taken one they would have won the game.

I just can’t see Liverpool not having those kind of chances and I think they’ll take them. I don’t think Everton will have a go at Liverpool, but if they defend for 95 minutes they’re not going to keep a clean sheet.

PAUL PREDICTS: 2-0

Liverpool have certainly had the better of the Merseyside derbies in recent years, particularly at Anfield, and although sixth-placed Everton are on a fine run themselves, it’s difficult to see past a home win tomorrow afternoon.
