This weekend’s heavy-weight clash sees Chelsea entertain Premier League leaders Manchester City at Stamford Bridge this evening [5.30pm kick-off].

The Blues enjoyed an excellent start to the season having gone unbeaten in their opening 12 league matches but any hopes of mounting a serious title challenge have been severely dented with two defeats in their past three games.

The most recent came with a disappointing 2-1 loss at Wolves in midweek which has left Chelsea sitting level on points with Arsenal in fourth place and 10 points adrift of City so Maurizio Sarri’s side desperately need to get back to winning ways today.

However, that will be a difficult task as the west Londoners face a Man City side who remain unbeaten having won 13 of their 15 league games so far this season and are the red-hot favourites to retain their title.

Despite their ominous form, City could find themselves down in second place come kick-off if Liverpool beat Bournemouth in today’s lunchtime game so Pep Guardiola will be determined to end the weekend sitting top of the table.

Team news

Chelsea have no fresh injury problems to contend with but the likes of Jorginho, David Luiz, Mateo Kovacic, Pedro and Olivier Giroud are pushing for recalls after being benched against Wolves.

Man City have been dealt a double blow as Kevin De Bruyne is still not fit to make his return from a knee injury while Sergio Aguero is still out with a groin injury that kept him out of the win at Watford in midweek.

Benjamin Mendy remains out with a long-term knee injury so Fabian Delph should keep his place at left-back but Vincent Kompany will need to be assessed after being forced off on Tuesday night with cramp.

Predicted Score

Chelsea 1-1 Man City: City have won two of their last three trips to Stamford Bridge and are unbeaten in their last 14 Premier League away games so they’ll be confident of getting a positive result tonight. However, Chelsea will be desperate to get their season back on track and I think Sarri’s side will get a well-earned point on home soil.
