Arsenal eye swoop to sign 27-year-old South American star, club ready to do deal
Arsenal are eyeing a move to sign James Rodriguez and Bayern Munich are ready to let the Colombian international cut short his loan spell in Germany.
The January transfer window is open and managers are working hard on strengthening their squads and identifying targets for the summer so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest rumours. Today, Arsenal are linked with James Rodriguez…
Arsenal are eyeing a move to sign James Rodriguez and Bayern Munich are ready to let the Colombian international cut short his loan spell in Germany, according to the Daily Mail.
Rodriguez made his name during spells at Porto and Monaco but really blew on to the world stage after some superb performances at the 2014 World Cup which earned him a big-money move to Real Madrid.
The 27-year-old eventually fell out of favour at the Bernabeu and joined Bayern Munich in 2017 on a two-year loan deal worth around £11.5m which includes the option to make the move permanent for £39.5m this summer [source: Daily Mail].
However, Rodriguez has struggled to establish himself under new boss Niko Kovac this season having started just 5 Bundesliga games and it’s led to speculation the South American could be on the move this winter.
The situation has alerted Arsenal with the Daily Mail claiming that we’ve identified Rodriguez as a potential addition this month as Unai Emery looks to strengthen his squad on a shoe-string budget.
The manager admitted last week that he wants to bring in a defender and attacker this month but he has no money to buy players on a permanent basis so he’s restricted to scouring the market for loan signings.
Rodriguez could be the ideal addition as the Daily Mail claim Bayern are willing to let the player leave if Arsenal pay the final £3m installment that is due to Madrid to take him for the last six months of their loan agreement.
The Colombian international is predominantly a central attacking midfielder but he can also play on either wing if needed so he’d give Emery plenty of options in the final third if we did manage to lure him to the Emirates.
We are low on attackers right now as Danny Welbeck won’t play again this season due to a broken ankle, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is also out with a fractured foot while Mesut Ozil has been frozen out by Emery in recent weeks.

Speculation suggests that Arsenal are hoping to try and offload Ozil this month and Rodriguez would be a top class replacement for the German playmaker but it remains to be seen whether we can get a deal agreed for either player.
