Tottenham have held talks with the agents of Udinese attacker Rodrigo De Paul over a potential move to north London this month, according to reports in Italy via TeamTalk.
Mauricio Pochettino is under increasing pressure to strengthen his squad after seeing his attacking options decimated in recent weeks with Harry Kane facing six weeks out with an ankle injury while Hueng-min Son is currently away at the Asian Cup.
Lucas Moura is struggling to shake off a knee injury while Dele Alli was forced off with a hamstring problem at the weekend so Pochettino’s squad is being stretched to it’s limits and it’s led to speculation linking Spurs with a number of players this month.
It seems the London giants are working hard on possible targets as TeamTalk claim that after being frustrated with their pursuit of Barcelona attacker Malcom, Tottenham have now turned their attention to Udinese forward De Paul.
The report cites Tuttomercatoweb as saying that Spurs are eyeing a swoop for the 24-year-old after he recently switched agents to Leandro Pereiro and Agustyn Jiminez in order to facilitate a move away from Udinese.
TeamTalk claims that the attackers new representatives have already held talks with Tottenham chiefs about an initial six-month loan with a view to making the move permanent in the summer.
De Paul came through the youth ranks at Racing Club in his native Argentina before joining Valencia in 2014 and he made 32 appearances for the Spaniard’s before heading to Italy to join Udinese in 2016.
The South American has enjoyed his time in Serie A as he’s provided 6 goals and 3 assists in his 19 league appearances so far this season while he’s also broken in to the Argentinean national team with 3 caps to his name last year.
De Paul is predominantly a left winger but he’s capable of playing anywhere across the front three so his versatility would be a very useful asset it Tottenham were able to get a deal agreed for his signature.
