‘Best player on the pitch’ – Some fans drool over ‘outstanding’ Arsenal star v City

Arsenal were able to find one positive from Sunday’s disappointing 3-1 defeat to Manchester City with many fans drooling over the performance of Matteo Guendouzi.

Sergio Aguero was Arsenal’s nemesis once again as he opened the scoring inside the first minute with a close range header before Laurent Koscielny levelled things up for the Gunners ten minutes later.

Arsenal more than held their own for the majority of the first half with Guendouzi running the show in the middle of the park. The 19-year-old wasn’t fazed by the big occasion and he completed the first half without miss-placing a single pass.

Aguero went on to score two further goals to score his hat-trick and succumb Arsenal to a 3-1 defeat which leaves us sixth in the table and three points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea so fans were understandably frustrated after the game on Sunday.

However, the one ray of sunshine was the display from Guendouzi as the Frenchman was outstanding against the defending champions and he’s rightly been receiving praise from all corners of the media.

Arsenal fans have really taken to Guendouzi since he was plucked from Ligue 2 Lorient in the summer and some have labelled him a future superstar following his mature performance at the Etihad.

One fan took to social media to say he was the ‘best player on the pitch by a mile’, another believes he’s future captain material while one supporter compared him to former Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas but ‘without the snakey bits’.

There were some moments after we scored until their second where I thought we were competent. Other than that it was as bad as expected and in the second half we wanted no part of it. Only real positive is Guendouzi. Absolute star in the making.

Guendouzi held his own in midfield earlier against the likes of De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva, shows how mature and how much potential he has, Torriera I thought put in a good shift aswell, both Emery signings, more signings like that and we will move forward as a team/club.

A disappointing result, but credit to Mattéo Guendouzi. 19 years old, outnumbered in midfield against a side who hold the record for the most points in PL history yet he was our best player. Fought for everything, looked composed & hardly put a foot wrong. He did himself proud.
