Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Jordan Veretout….
Arsenal have made a late approach to try and hijack Napoli’s proposed £20m move to sign Fiorentina midfielder Jordan Veretout this summer, according to reports in France via TeamTalk.
Unai Emery is gearing-up for a busy summer in the transfer market as he needs to revamp his squad after Arsenal finished fifth in the Premier League and were thumped 4-1 by Chelsea in the Europa League final.
A new box-to-box midfielder is among the priorities after Aaron Ramsey agreed a deal to join Juventus on a free transfer when his contract expires this month and it appears Veretout has emerged as a potential replacement.
TeamTalk are citing a report that originates from L’Equipe that claims Arsenal have made a late attempt to derail the 26-year-old’s proposed £19.9m [€22m] move to Napoli after making contact with Fiorentina to express our interest in signing the midfielder.
The French publication says Napoli are in advanced talks to secure an agreement and Veretout is reportedly keen on linking up with Carlo Ancelotti at the San Paolo Stadium but as yet the deal isn’t over the line.
This delay has seemingly opened the door for other clubs and L’Equipe, via TeamTalk, says Sevilla and Roma have joined Arsenal in making a late play for Veretout so we’ll face plenty of competition for his signature.
Arsenal were linked with a move for the Frenchman back in April when it was claimed we held talks with the midfielder’s agent, according to TeamTalk, and it looks like we’ve now renewed our interest just before he completes his move to Naples.
Veretout has previously played in England having endured a disappointing two-year spell at Aston Villa before making a £6m move to Fiorentina in 2017 but he’s rediscovered some of his best form while in Serie A.
The former French U21 international provided 5 goals and 4 assists in 37 appearances in all competitions last season and he was one of La Viola’s best players during a poor campaign that saw them finish 16th in the table – just three points off the bottom three.

He’s a specialist central midfielder and with Emery working on a tight budget after failing to qualify for the Champions League, Veretout is the type of player I wouldn’t be surprised to see Arsenal sign this summer.
