Solskjaer wants 3rd signing wrapped-up this weekend as Man Utd close-in on £25m star
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Sean Longstaff signed by the end of the weekend as Manchester United step-up their pursuit of the Newcastle United midfielder
Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Here, the latest on Man Utd’s pursuit of Sean Longstaff….
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Sean Longstaff signed by the end of the weekend as Manchester United step-up their pursuit of the Newcastle United midfielder, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Solskjaer needs to revamp his squad following a disappointing season and United have already snapped-up winger Daniel James from Swansea City while right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka completed his switch from Crystal Palace last weekend.
However, Solskjaer needs midfield reinforcements as Marouane Fellaini left United in January, Ander Herrera has joined PSG, Paul Pogba is being strongly linked with a move this summer while Nemanja Matic turns 31 next month.
So Solskjaer is expected to bring in at least one new midfielder this summer and Longstaff has emerged as a prime target after impressing Man Utd chiefs following a breakthrough campaign with Newcastle last season.
The Daily Star reported earlier this week that United are ready to meet Newcastle’s asking price with an offer worth £20m up front and a further £5m in add-ons while they’ll tempt Longstaff with a contract worth £75,000-a-week.
The M.E.N now claim Man Utd are expected to step-up their pursuit of the 21-year-old over the coming days as Solskjaer wants a deal wrapped-up before the squad flies off for their pre-season tour.
Manchester United head to Australia on Monday for the first leg of their pre-season tour and it seems Solskjaer is keen to have Longstaff on board the plane so he can get fully integrated into the squad as soon as possible.
However, the M.E.N suggests that a deal for Longstaff could be delayed if Man Utd focus their efforts on signing centre-back Harry Maguire first after seeing an opening £70m offer rejected by Leicester this week.
