Man Utd are pushing to sign Bruno Fernandes after submitting a £49.6m offer and they’re ready to lure the midfielder with a £100,000-a-week contract
Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Here, the latest on Man Utd’s pursuit of Bruno Fernandes…
Manchester United are pushing to sign Bruno Fernandes after submitting a £49.6m offer and they’re ready to lure the Sporting Lisbon midfielder with a contract worth over £100,000-a-week, according to Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already snapped-up Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer but the United boss is still expected to sign at least two more players before the start of the new season as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging next year.
A new midfielder is on the agenda as Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera have left the club in recent months while Paul Pogba continues to be strongly linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer.
Fernandes has been touted as one of Solskjaer’s prime targets with widespread reports suggesting Man Utd have been in talks with Sporting over a potential deal and the Daily Star claimed last week that the player expects a move to go through eventually.
It seems United are pushing to get a deal agreed as Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira claims an offer worth £49.6m [€55m] has been made for the Portuguese international.
There is no indication whether Sporting have responded to the offer yet but Schira does say a contract worth around £104,000-a-week [£5.4/€6m a year] is waiting for Fernandes if the two clubs can agree a fee.
He claimed on Twitter:
#ManchesterUnited insist and want to close for #BrunoFernandes. #RedDevils have offered €55M to Sporting for him. He could sign a contract by €6M a year. #transfers #MUFC #mutd
We’ll have to wait and see whether Sporting Lisbon accept United’s reported offer or hold out for more but Fernandes would be an exciting signing if the Manchester giants were able to pull it off.
The 24-year-old contributed a staggering 32 goals and 18 assists from an attacking central midfield position last season so he’d certainly provide some much-needed creativity in Solskjaer’s side if Man Utd can get a deal agreed.

However, Fernandes’s arrival would only fuel speculation linking Pogba with a move away from Old Trafford after the French international went public with his desire to seek a new challenge earlier in the summer.
