Manchester United are eyeing a move to sign Lyon striker Moussa Dembele as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prepares for the possible exit of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan, according to Sky Sports News.
Lukaku has been strongly linked with a move to the San Siro this summer and Sky Sports say United are ready to sell the Belgian hitman as long as Inter increase their £54m offer so it’s closer to their £79m valuation.
The report says Inter CEO Beppe Marotta is reluctant to pay over the odds for Lukaku due to concerns over Financial Fair Play while the Serie A giants also need to sell the likes of Mauro Icardi and Joao Mario in order to raise extra funds.
However, Lukaku is keen to leave Old Trafford and a move is likely to go through eventually so United need to line-up potential replacements and it appears Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has his eye on Dembele.
The French international was strongly linked with a move to England earlier in the summer with the Mirror carrying a report from L’Equipe that claimed Man Utd were favourites to sign Dembele after holding talks over a possible £35m [€40m] deal.
The links went quiet while United focussed their efforts on signing Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka while they are also desperately trying to land a centre-back but it seems with Lukaku edging closer to Inter, United are now back in the hunt for Dembele.
Sky Sports claims the 23-year-old is on Solskjaer’s short-list to replace Lukaku as the Frenchman is more of a traditional No.9 compared to other reported targets such as Lille attacker Nicolas Pepe.
Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward hasn’t gone on United’s pre-season tour as he’s stayed back in Manchester to conduct transfer business with only two weeks to go before the transfer window in England slams shut.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but I expect Man Utd to step-up their interest in Dembele if there is any breakthrough in negotiations with Inter over Lukaku.
