Man Utd in talks over possible £13.7m deal as Solskjaer closes-in on another signing
Manchester United are in negotiations with Juventus over a surprise deal to sign Mario Mandzukic with the striker keen on a move to Old Trafford
We’re now at the business end of the summer transfer window and managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the world. Here, Man Utd are linked with Mario Mandzukic…
Manchester United are in negotiations with Juventus over a surprise deal to sign Mario Mandzukic with the striker reportedly keen on a move to Old Trafford, according to Calcio Mercato.
United are closing-in on a record £80m deal to sign centre-back Harry Maguire form Leicester City so it looks like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s priority is to focus on strengthening his attacking options during the closing days of the window.
Calcio Mercato claims Man Utd chiefs remain locked in talks with Juventus over a sensational swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku and Paulo Dybala. The Belgian has agreed terms over his part of the deal but United are still trying to find an agreement with Dybala’s camp.
However, it seems irrespective of the outcome of that swap deal Solskjaer is hoping to bring in another forward this summer as the Italian publication says United are also holding talks with Juve over a separate deal for Mandzukic.
Calcio Mercato says the priority is still to clinch an agreement for Lukaku/Dybala but concrete negotiations have taken place over a deal for Mandzukic that would cost between £9.1m and £13.7m [€10m-€15m].
The report says the 33-year-old is keen on the idea of moving to Old Trafford after being drawn to United’s proposal and a deal is now believed to be at an advanced stage of negotiations.
It would certainly be a shock if Man Utd signed Mandzukic as he’s coming towards the end of his career and Solskjaer has so far been looking to sign talented youngsters this summer rather than older, established players.
However, with Lukaku expected to leave, I suppose United will need to sign a target-man type striker and Mandzukic has been one of the best in the business over the past few years having enjoyed spells with Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Juventus.
The Croatian international provided 10 goals and 11 assists in his 33 appearances last season but he’d find himself down the pecking order at Juve if Lukaku arrives this summer so perhaps a move to United would suit all parties.
