Transfer deadline day is here and managers are desperately trying to get those last minute deals over the line so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the world. Here, David Luiz is set to join Arsenal…
David Luiz is set to undergo his medical with Arsenal after the Gunners agreed an £8m deal with Chelsea to sign the Brazilian centre-back, according to the BBC.
Arsenal boss Unai Emery has been desperately trying to sign a central defender this summer and he stepped-up his search after Laurent Koscielny joined Bordeaux earlier this week.
After Arsenal failed with moves for the likes of Daniele Rugani and Dayot Upamecano in recent days, Luiz emerged as a shock target on Wednesday with widespread reports claiming he had missed training yesterday in order to try and force through a move to the Emirates.
It seems a move is now on the cards as the BBC claims Luiz is set to undergo his medical in north London today after Arsenal agreed an £8m deal with Chelsea for the South American’s signature.
The report says Luiz will sign a two-year contract with the Gunners and as long as there are no late complications, the 32-year-old will follow Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba, Dani Ceballos and Nicolas Pepe in joining Arsenal this summer.
It’s certainly an intriguing move but Luiz will fill the gap left behind by Koscielny as he’ll provide leadership in the Arsenal defence and he knows the Premier League well so he could turn out to be a shrewd piece of business.
Luiz decided to leave Stamford Bridge after Frank Lampard refused to give him the assurances he wanted about his role as a first team regular but Chelsea won’t be able to sign a replacement due to their FIFA imposed transfer ban.

Let’s see how the medical goes but it looks like Luiz is set to join Arsenal and he should be followed by Kieran Tierney after the Gunners also agreed a £25m to sign the left-back from Celtic.
