Man Utd agree terms with £10m star as Solskjaer looks to bolster attack in January
Manchester United have a verbal agreement with Mario Mandzukic as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to sign the £10m-rated Juventus striker in January
The January transfer window is just around the corner and managers are looking to strengthen their squads this winter so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with Mario Mandzukic….
Manchester United have a verbal agreement in place with Mario Mandzukic as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to sign the £10m-rated Juventus striker in January, according to the Express.
United failed to sign a replacement for Romelu Lukaku after the Belgian hitman joined Inter Milan in the summer while Alexis Sanchez’s loan move to the Italian giants left Solskjaer will limited options in attack.
Mason Greemwood has been promoted to the first team squad and the teenager has huge potential but isn’t ready to be a regular starter just yet while Marcus Rashford has struggled to supply goals on a consistent basis this season.
Anthony Martial started the campaign well after being given a chance through the middle during the opening few games but the Frenchman’s season has been derailed by a hamstring injury that’s kept him on the sidelines since late August.
The Manchester giants have struggled in front of goal during Martial’s absence as they haven’t scored more than one goal in any game since thrashing Chelsea 4-0 on the opening weekend of the season.
United have managed to score just 7 goals in 10 games in all competitions since the Chelsea match and Solskjaer has admitted he needs to add more firepower to his squad if they’re to get their campaign back on track.
It looks like the Norwegian coach has renewed his interest in Mandzukic as the Express claims Solskjaer is keen to land the Juventus hitman this winter after failing to secure a deal during the summer window.
The newspaper says Man Utd have already reached a verbal agreement with the Croatian international and now just need to agree terms with Juventus but the Serie A champions are demanding £10m for Mandzukic’s signature.
United may be reluctant to pay that kind of money for a player who’ll turn 34 in May but the former Bayern Munich striker could prove to be a solid short-term solution to their problems up front if a deal can be agreed.
Mandzukic has vast experience at the top level having enjoyed spells with Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Juventus while he’s also scored 33 goals in 89 games for Croatia at international level.
The 33-year-old is looking for a fresh start as he’s yet to make a single appearance for Juve this season after being frozen out of the squad by Maurizio Sarri and I’m sure he’d jump at the chance of joining Man Utd if a deal can be reached between the two clubs.
