“Pathetic” – Piers Morgan reacts & singles out Arsenal man after draw at Norwich
Piers Morgan has slammed Arsenal after our 2-2 draw with Norwich and singled out a particular player for rough treatment. See the details here
Arsenal fans have been left frustrated once again after the club were held to a 2-2 draw by lowly Norwich City at Carrow Road this afternoon.
The Gunners went into the game optimistic of a fresh start after Freddie Ljungberg was installed as interim manager following the departure of Unai Emery on Friday morning but familiar issues at the back reared their head once again.
After a promising start by Arsenal, Norwich took the lead in the 21st minute when Teemu Pukki’s shot deflected off Shkodran Mustafi and past Bernd Leno for 1-0. The German defender should have done more to block the shot as he failed to close down the Norwich hitman and turned his back on the shot.
Arsenal levelled things up less than 10 minutes later when a re-taken Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang penalty made it 1-1. The first effort was saved by Tim Krul but VAR ordered a re-take due to encroachment and the Gabon international made no mistake second time around.
However, more woeful defending from Arsenal allowed Norwich to restore their lead just before half-time when the hosts broke at pace before Todd Cantwell slotted home for 2-1. Calum Chambers, David Luiz and Mustafi were all at fault along with the non-existent midfield.
Aubameyang got Arsenal back in it when he lashed home for 2-2 in the 57th minute but we couldn’t push on to find a winner and it was Norwich who looked the more threatening during the closing stages of the game with Leno having to make several good saves to secure the point.
It was a sense of de-ja-vu for Arsenal fans as we’ve seen these defensive mistakes all too often and celebrity Arsenal supporter Piers Morgan couldn’t hide his frustration after taking to social media to slam the ‘pathetic’ defence – which he feels is the worst we’ve had in at least 30 years.
Morgan took aim at Mustafi by saying the German was doing his best to lose Arsenal the game and the TV presenter said he was ‘thrilled’ to get a point in the end – which he feels highlights just how far we’ve fallen.
2-1. Pathetic, abysmal ‘defending’ yet again. This is the worst defence Arsenal’s had in at least 30 years.

Mustafi doing his best to lose us another game, Leno keeping us in it. #ncfcvafc

Genuinely thrilled to get a draw against Norwich. That’s how far we’ve fallen. #afc

He’s a controversial character but it’s difficult to argue with Morgan on this one as this Arsenal defence is truly shocking and Mustafi should be nowhere near the first team.
In truth, it’s not just Mustafi as Chambers, Luiz, Sokratis and Sead Kolasinac just aren’t good enough either and with the hopeless Granit Xhaka ‘protecting’ them in midfield, we’ve got no hope of keeping clean sheets.
Ljungberg – and whoever comes in as permanent manager – have a huge task on their hands to get this Arsenal team organised as we’re so open in midfield and the defence has no clue how the DEFEND.
