Liverpool agree to sign Minamino in bargain £7.25m deal
Liverpool have fended off competition from rivals Manchester United to secure the signature of Takumi Minamino in a bargain £7.25m deal from Salzburg.
The January transfer window is just around the corner so we’ll bring you the latest football news.
Liverpool are storming their way to their first Premier League title since 1990 but Jurgen Klopp is still keen to further strengthen his squad and the European Champions are set to sign one of Europe’s most exciting young attackers.
According to widespread reports, Liverpool have fended off competition from rivals Manchester United to secure the signature of Takumi Minamino in a bargain £7.25m deal from Salzburg.
Minamino has been one of Salzburg’s star players in recent years with the attacking midfielder providing 64 goals and 44 assists in 199 games since joining the club from Osaka in 2015.
The 24-year-old helped fire Salzburg to the Champions League group stages this season and he impressed a number of clubs with his performances against top class opposition such as Liverpool and Napoli as the Austrian side narrowly missed out on qualification to the knockout stages.
However, it was the games against Liverpool that proved decisive in determining his future as Minamino caught Klopp’s eye and the Liverpool boss has now decided to meet the players £7.25m release clause – which is a bargain in today’s market.
Reports say the deal has been agreed in principal and Minamino will join Liverpool in January after the Reds held off competition from Man Utd and a number of top Bundesliga sides to secure his signature thanks largely to their close relationship with Salzburg.
The Japan international is predominantly a right winger but he’s comfortable playing anywhere across the front three and his eye for goal will provide Liverpool with another top class option in the final third.
Minamino’s hard-working attitude fits perfectly with Klopp’s style of football but obviously he’ll face a tough time securing a first team place as he’ll be up against Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino for a regular starting spot.
However, a move to Liverpool is too good an opportunity to turn down and Minamino will further strengthen an already formidable Liverpool attack as they look to close-out the title during the second half of the season.
