[VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS] Arsenal 0-0 Sunderland: Arshavin Goal Wrongly Ruled Out For Unlucky Gunners

Arsenal failed to close the gap on Man Utd to 1 point as the Gunners only managed a 0-0 draw with Sunderland at the Emirates. But the scoreline doesn’t tell the whole story of the game as Arsenal will feel hugely aggrieved at some poor referring decisions that went against them.

The main two talking points came in late the second half and both involved Andrey Arshavin. First he burst into the box but just as he went to pull the trigger, Sunderland defender Bramble not only had hold of his arm but he then pushed the forward in the back unbalancing him as he struck wide. The commentators claimed it was a stone-wall penalty, but nothing was given. Only minutes later, Bendtner sent Arshavin clear once more and he confidently rounded the keeper to slot home for what would have been a priceless goal. But it was ruled out for off-side, replays showing Arshavin was on-side.

As Fergie rightly said, major decisions like that change championships and Arsenal were on the wrong side of it today. We pummelled the goal during the second half with Nasri’s great free-kick being well saved and Chamakh hit the bar. Bendtner also should have done better with a couple of chances, but it wasn’t to be. Up the other end Sunderland did very little going forward, but Szczesny pulled off a superb save late on to deny Welbeck. Watch full match or individual highlights and leave your comments below….
