Tottenham vs Liverpool | Match preview with team news, betting odds & prediction
There is a heavy-weight clash in North London this evening as Tottenham Hotspur entertain Premier League champions Liverpool.
Spurs head into the game off the back of a 4-1 victory at Wycombe in the fourth round of the FA Cup but Jose Mourinho will now be fully focussed on getting his side back in the race for Champions League qualification.
Tottenham currently sit sixth in the Premier League table but can climb up to fourth with a win tonight and put themselves just five points behind leaders Manchester City at the half-way point in the campaign.
However, Liverpool will be keen to get back on track after a run of disappointing results as they followed up last weeks shock home defeat to Burnley with a 3-2 loss at Manchester United in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.
The defending champions are one point above Tottenham in fifth place so Jurgen Klopp’s men can climb above West Ham into fourth with a win and close to within four points of City.
Betting odds
According to the best Australian online casino sites Liverpool are priced as the 5/4 favourites to win the game tonight with hosts Tottenham coming in at 11/5 to collect all three points. The draw can be backed at 27/10 if you think the spoils will be shared.
This game usually delivers goals so we should be confident in backing over 2.5 match goals at odds of 4/6 while some may even be tempted to go for over 3.5 at odds of 7/4 to get some extra value.
Despite Liverpool being the pre-match favourites to win the game, many of the best online slots and betting sites have Tottenham hitman Harry Kane as the 4/1 favourite to open the scoring this evening. Sadio Mane is priced at 9/1 while you can back Hueng-min Son at 5/1.
Team news
Tottenham will be without Giovani Lo Celso as he’s still recovering from a thigh injury while Matt Doherty will face a late fitness test on a muscle problem. Ben Davies is expected to recover from a minor calf issue to start on the left with Sergio Reguilon ruled out.
Liverpool have a number of injury issues to contend with as Fabinho has emerged as a doubt with a muscle issue while Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Diogo Jota and Naby Keita are all certain to miss the trip to London.
However, Jordan Henderson is back in contention after recovering from a muscle injury that kept him out of the United game while Sadio Mane and Joel Matip are set for recalls.
Prediction
This is a difficult game to predict as Tottenham should be confident on home soil against an out-of-form Liverpool side. However, you cannot discount the Reds as they are obviously a world class side on their day and will no doubt rediscover their form soon.
Henderson’s return will be vital for Liverpool and we fancy them to get a result in north London. It will be a competitive match but we’re going for Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool.
