Ronaldo: United’s Messiah?
Those interested in football will agree that the recent transfer window has been one to remember after Cristiano Ronaldo re-joined Manchester United.
Those interested in football will agree that the recent transfer window has been one to remember. For the uninitiated, the transfer window allows clubs to sell or buy players, which can be done for tactical reasons on behalf of the club, or personal reasons on behalf of the player. One of the football greats, Lionel Messi, was one notable transfer during this window, but many would consider his move was overshadowed by Cristiano Ronaldo’s move, who some think is the greatest in the game. A few days before the window ended on the 31st of August, Ronaldo completed his move from Juventus to Manchester United on the 27th of August.
For United fans, this was completely unprecedented and came as a shock to much of the football world. It was clear that Messi’s future was uncertain due to financial troubles La Liga is experiencing, though Ronaldo only displayed a desire to leave during the latter days of the transfer window. Sources allege that his agent offered him to PSG to be part of the phenomenal force they have amassed this year, but they declined as Ronaldo was not part of their plans. The same response was supposedly received from United’s rivals Manchester City, though Ronaldo will surely say they never talked at all. All of this culminated in the shock announcement that Ronaldo will re-join his boyhood club, to the delight of many United fans.
There is no question that this is a top signing for Manchester United. While they have already enjoyed a great transfer window, the signing of Ronaldo represents a clear statement of intent from the Red Devils. They are here to compete this year, which is something that will be received happily by many United fans. The truth is that United have failed to reach the heights achieved by their most successful manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, and ever since he left the club has experienced many years of stagnation. Now that United have constructed themselves an incredible squad, all eyes will be on them to see how they perform this season.
Many will be asking questions about how Ronaldo may fit into the current squad. Before his arrival, the club already had an impressive attacking line-up consisting of the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani. The introduction of Ronaldo will surely cause some doubt amongst fans as they wonder who Ronaldo may push out as it is certain Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be wanting to start the Portuguese man as often as possible. Goals always follow Ronaldo, and as United already have pace and movement while attacking, it looks likely that Ronaldo could fit in a central role and get supported by attacking players all around him. Though he prefers the left side of the pitch, recently he has done most of his work within the box, making him a perfect candidate to be a striker.
The transfer window is always an enjoyable time for fans of betting as they can predict what clubs players will move to for high returns. Those who want an alternative experience may enjoy some online casino options more though, especially during international breaks like what was seen last week. Only time will tell if Ronaldo succeeds at United, but looking at his impressive history, there is little doubt that he will.
