Arsenal take on AFC Wimbledon at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night in the third round of the Carabao Cup. Here is our betting preview.
Arsenal take on AFC Wimbledon at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
The Gunners started the season poorly having lost their opening three Premier League games but Mikel Arteta has got their campaign back on track after picking up consecutive 1-0 victories over Norwich and Burnley.
They may not have been convincing during these wins, but Arsenal secured six vital points which have moved them off the foot of the table and provided the players with a much-needed morale boost ahead of Sunday’s North London Derby.
It was over 25 years since Arsenal had played in the second round of the EFL Cup but they ended that run this season after failing to qualify for Europe. Thankfully, Arteta’s men avoided an upset after thrashing West Brom 6-0 at the Hawthorns last month to set-up a third round tie with Wimbledon.
The League One outfit make the short trip across London having booked their place in the third round with a 1-0 win at Northampton and Wimbledon currently sit seventh in their division after picking up 12 points from their opening eight matches.
Betting odds
Understandably, Arsenal are the heavy favourites with the bookmakers to win tomorrow night with https://www.free-spins-no-deposit.net/ backing the Gunners are odds of 1/9 to get the job done inside 90 minutes. Arsenal are also a whopping 1/80 to qualify for the next round including extra time and penalties, so the bookies clearly think this one is a foregone conclusion.
However, for those who think there may be an upset at the Emirates, you can back Wimbledon to win inside 90 minutes at 28/1 while they’re 12/1 to qualify for the fourth round. The draw can be backed at odds of around 17/2.
Arteta will rest his big guns so the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are expected to be given an opportunity to impress in attack. Lacazette is 11/5 favourite to open the scoring while Nketiah is 8/13 to score at anytime.
If we bet on Lacazette to score first in a 3-0 Arsenal win we can secure tempting odds of 18/1.
Team news
With Tottenham heading to the Emirates this weekend, Arteta is fully expected to make wholesale changes to his starting eleven with the likes of Gabriel, Ben White, Kieran Tierney, Thomas Partey, Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang rested.
Bernd Leno should return in goal after losing his place to Aaron Ramsdale in recent games while Rob Holding, Pablo Mari, Nuno Tavares and Cedric Soares could come into the Arsenal defence.
Albert Sambi Lokonga and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are pushing for recalls in midfield while Gabriel Martinelli could join Lacazette and Nketiah in the attack.
Prediction: Arsenal 3-0 Wimbledon
