Harry Kane coy over his Tottenham Hotspur future, sets sights on England milestone
Tottenham striker Harry Kane has remained coy over his future ahead of the upcoming international friendlies for England against Switzerland and Ivory Coast.
Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has remained coy over his club future ahead of the upcoming international friendlies for England against Switzerland and Ivory Coast.
The 28-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Manchester City last summer, but a deal did not materialise with Spurs adamant that he was not leaving for any price.
Kane followed to have an average first half to the Premier League campaign, but has picked up his form over the past few months to boost the club’s prospects of making the top four. Tottenham are not the betting favourites with newbettingsites.com.au and other bookmakers but are better equipped to pounce on any mistakes Arsenal make. An easier run-in schedule will help as well.
Despite this, there remains speculation, having yet to win silverware with the club. When pressed about his long-term future recently, Kane said that his main focus is on finishing the season.
The England captain added that he can’t control what will happen in the future, thereby hinting that he could consider a potential move elsewhere at the end of the campaign.
He told reporters via Evening Standard: “Obviously my main focus is just finishing this season, first and foremost. We’re still in a competition for the top four and that’s where my focus lies. I can’t control what will happen in the future.”
Meanwhile, Kane is currently on the cusp of becoming England’s all-time leading scorer. The striker has netted 48 goals for the Three Lions, just five shy of Wayne Rooney’s record.
He could be within striking distance of Rooney’s feat after the upcoming friendlies. Kane has said that he is eager to play as many games as possible and would love to achieve the milestone.
With the World Cup this year, the Three Lions could be playing over 15 international matches and Kane is positive about his chances of creating history with his national team.
He said via Manchester Evening News: “I want to play as many games as possible. I’ll be ready whenever I’m needed. I would love to break that record. Hopefully, with the games we have this year, that will be possible. I am in a really good place at the moment.”
Kane netted a stunning seven goals during the final two World Cup qualifiers against Albania and San Marino, but it could be a much stiffer challenge against Switzerland this weekend.
On their day, the Swiss are not an easy team to breach defensively. Kane has not had much joy against them with just one goal from three meetings, but has the chance to put things right.
