Upcoming Football Games to look out for in April

As we edge closer to the end of the 21/22 season across most countries, there are some huge matches to be played, and at this point in the season, everything is to play for. As we enter a new month of football, here are some of the big games to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.

Champions League Quarter-Finals – Chelsea vs Real Madrid – Wed 6th

Kicking off April with a mighty clash as Chelsea look to be taking one step closer to retaining their European crown after the club won it for the second time in its history last season. But they know very well that it is no easy game for them, and they are very aware of the threat Real Madrid poses to them.

Chelsea will have confidence going into the tie, though, after they beat Real Madrid 3-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals last season. Although it’s not all sunshine and rainbows, the blues play on the back of a shocking 3-1 defeat to Brentford at the weekend.

Europa League Quarter-Finals – Braga vs Rangers – Thu 7th

With Rangers facing defeat versus Celtic in the league, they now turn their attention back to the Europa League, where they strive to go all the way to the end of the competition following massive wins against Borussia Dortmund and Red Star Belgrade.

The Scottish side was drawn against Braga in the next round and are seen to be favourites to win ahead of the fixture. However, Braga approaches the game with confidence after their 3-2 win over Benfica on Friday night. This fixture truly is one to watch. Can Rangers go all the way?

Premier League – Man City vs Liverpool – Sun 10th

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side has done brilliantly to get to April and still be in the hunt for the treble, but a lot of them come down to the next few games where the league games almost turn into a knockout stage with how tight it is. Both teams come head-to-head in the hopes of coming out with three points and one hand on the league title.

Scottish Cup – Celtic vs Rangers & Hearts vs Hibs – Sat 16th & Sun 17th

For the first time in the Scottish Cup’s 148-year history, Glasgow and Edinburgh derby matches will decide who goes into the final.

With the league cup already in the Parkhead trophy room and Celtic with one hand on the SPFL premiership title, Rangers now focus their attention on stopping what could be a treble of trophies for Celtic. As they lick their wounds from the weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Ibrox, Rangers now have to rekindle themselves for another old firm match in 13 days’ time at Hampden.

Moving onto the Edinburgh teams, Hearts and Hibs both eagerly look to secure their spot in the final and grasp that chance at securing some major silverware. The two teams met back in 2020 in the Scottish cup, where Hearts secured their place in the final with a dramatic late penalty in extra time.

Serie A – AC Milan vs Lazio – Sun 24th

Moving into Europe, AC Milan is on what could be a historic season the club has seen for a while as they lead the top of the table by a single point after they dropped points with a draw to Bologna on Monday. They now face Lazio in the league in a couple of weeks which will be a make or break decision as to whether they win the league or not.

The last time Milan won the Serie A was back in 2011, and since then, the club has had plenty of highs and lows. Now is the perfect time to tune into to watch the Italian side, and they give it one final push towards securing the league title.
