Manchester United will look to get their season up and running with a positive result against arch rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford tonight.

The Red Devils have endured a nightmare start to the 2022/23 campaign. An opening weekend defeat at home to Brighton was followed by a humiliating 4-0 loss at Brentford so Erik ten Hag is already under pressure to turn things around.

It’s not going to get any easier for the Dutchman as he welcomes a strong Liverpool side to Old Trafford this evening amid protests from United fans who aren’t happy with the clubs owners.

Man Utd have agreed a big-money deal to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid and they’re expected to spend heavily before the transfer window closes, but it’s not been enough to appease disgruntled supporters.

Liverpool head to Manchester off the back of a poor start themselves as they’ve only managed draws against Fulham and Crystal Palace in their opening two Premier League games.

With Manchester City dropping points at Newcastle United on Sunday, Liverpool will be desperate to close the gap on the champions with victory over Man Utd tonight.

Betting

This is always a huge game so there will be plenty of interest in the betting markets. Bookmakers will be vying for business so you could head to a 50 free spins casino to take advantage of their offer and hopefully win some money. You could then use these funds to bet on the Man Utd vs Liverpool match, effectively with the casinos own money.

Unsurprisingly, Liverpool head to Old Trafford as the pre-match favourites with betting sites pricing them at 4/6 to take away all three points. Man Utd are 15/4 to win the game – which are huge odds considering they’re the home side. The draw is available at 16/5 for those that think the points will be shared.

  • Man Utd to win 15/4
  • Draw 16/5
  • Liverpool to win 4/6

Salah the dangerman

Mohamed Salah is the obvious dangerman for Liverpool and the prolific Egyptian international is the 7/2 favourite to open the scoring tonight. Luis Diaz saved Liverpool’s blushes with a superb equaliser against Palace last week and he’s well-priced at 6/1 to break the deadlock at Old Trafford.

Reports suggest that Cristiano Ronaldo may be dropped to the bench so punters may want to avoid the Portuguese international at odds of 11/2 to score first this evening. Bruno Fernandes at 9/1 may be a better bet for United fans.

Prediction

United are under pressure to turn things around but it’s going to be very difficult against a top Liverpool side. Confidence is low at Man Utd and Liverpool will smell blood. Ten Hag will hope to see a spirited display from his men at home against their north-west rivals, so it might be closer than some pundits are predicting.

However, we still think the smart money is on a Liverpool win tonight. A 3-1 Liverpool victory is priced at 9/1 which might tempt some, but we think the best bet is a 2-1 away win at 13/2. Man Utd 1-2 Liverpool
