Wayne Rooney heaps praise on Man Utd’s Benjamin Sesko

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has heaped praise on the Red Devils’ new striker Benjamin Sesko following his eye-catching displays in recent matches.

After moving to Old Trafford from RB Leipzig for a fee of around £74m this summer, the Slovenian made his debut against Arsenal in the Premier League.

However, he failed to score in the first six games in all competitions before netting in the back-to-back matches against Brentford and Sunderland in the English top flight.

On The Wayne Rooney show, the former striker has heaped praise on the Slovenian and says that he is a ‘handful’ striker who uses his body well and challenges for the ball, which makes the other forwards’ job easier.

Rooney further claims that Sesko has been good in the air and has the ability to create problems for the opposition defenders by making runs in behind the backline.

Rooney said:

“I think he’s a handful. He uses his body well, challenges for balls, and it makes it easier for Mbeumo and Cunha when he’s on the ball to make runs in behind him. I think that’s clearly something they’ve worked on, and obviously, getting another goal will help him.

“Sesko has been good at winning headers in the air and then running in behind him. So I actually thought Manchester United got the tactics right yesterday. I think Amorim slightly changed his tactics and went with two forwards up top and it worked certainly for the first 30 minutes.”

Pundit lauds Sesko

Man Utd have struggled with centre-forward problems over the years. They tried to address this issue by signing Rasmus Hojlund a couple of years ago, but he couldn’t manage to find his feet in the Premier League before joining Napoli this summer.

So, the Old Trafford club will be hoping that Sesko will be able to continue finding the back of the net and help the club return to the top. He has the necessary attributes to become a world-class striker in the future, and United will have to provide him with the right environment to reach that level.

Meanwhile, Man Utd have had an inconsistent start to this season, accumulating 10 points from seven games and sitting in mid-table. They will face off against Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League after the international break; however, they haven’t been able to beat the Reds away from home for almost a decade.
