Everton are reportedly showing ‘strong’ interest in signing Manchester City star Rico Lewis, as per TEAMtalk.
After progressing through the Citizens’ youth system, the Englishman made his first team debut back in 2022. Although he has won two Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy, and several other major cup competitions over the last few years, he hasn’t been able to secure his place in Pep Guardiola’s starting line-up.
The youngster has made 21 appearances across all competitions this season, with only 10 coming as a starter. Still, he has netted two goals and registered three assists.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Lewis has become frustrated with his current situation at the Etihad Stadium, and at the age of 21, he is keen on playing regularly to develop his career.
After failing to find consistent playing time at Man City, he has lost his place in Thomas Tuchel’s England national team and is eager to regain his spot.
Although Man City are ‘strong admirers’ of Lewis, they won’t force him to stay if he asks to leave. A plethora of English clubs have already expressed their interest in signing him, with Newcastle United and Sunderland keeping a close eye on his situation.
Moreover, Everton, Fulham, Crystal Palace, Brentford, and Brighton and Hove Albion are showing ‘strong’ interest in securing his service during the offseason.
Lewis to Everton
Having recently tied Lewis down to a new long-term contract until 2030, Man City are in a strong position to demand a sizable amount of money to sell him, with the player valued at around £28m by Transfermarkt.
Lewis is a technically gifted right-footed player. He is comfortable in the right-back and midfield positions. He is quick, can play threading passes between the lines, and has an eye for long-range passing.
With Everton struggling with right-back issues in recent years, addressing the problem would be the right decision this summer. Lewis has shown glimpses of his qualities in the Premier League in recent years, so he might be a shrewd acquisition for the Toffees should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club eventually manage to secure his service by defeating other clubs in this race.
