Man Utd urged to sign AS Roma defender Evan Ndicka

European football expert Andy Brassell has urged Manchester United to sign AS Roma centre-back Evan Ndicka.

The Red Devils currently have Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, Lisandro Martínez, and Ayden Heaven as options to deploy at the heart of defence.

However, the Dutchman has been struggling with a back problem over the last few months, while the Argentinian international has failed to stay fit in recent years.

Maguire has also had fitness problems, but has been playing regularly since Michael Carrick’s arrival as the interim manager. Having displayed promising performances, he has now even regained his place in the England national team.

The former Leicester City star’s existing deal is set to expire at the end of this season. However, Man Utd are close to handing him a new short-term contract.

On the other hand, Heaven and Yoro are still very young and need time to develop. Now, speaking on talkSPORT, Brassell says that although Man Utd have enjoyed an upturn in form under Carrick, they shouldn’t become complacent.

They must add new top-class players this summer to take the next step in their rebuild, and reinforcing the backline would be the right decision.

Ndicka to Man Utd

The expert claims that Ndicka would be an ‘absolutely perfect’ option as he is ‘one of the very best’ centre-backs in Europe. The Ivory Coast international is an underrated player and possesses the necessary qualities to flourish in the Premier League.

With Roma struggling with financial difficulties, they might be open to cashing-in on Ndicka this summer to balance the books.

Brassell said:

“I think he’s one of the very best central defenders in Europe, and I don’t think he’s ever really given credit for it. They[Man Utd] have to go out and make some good signings. And in terms of refreshing that defence, I think Ndicka would be absolutely perfect.”

Ndicka is valued at around £30m by Transfermarkt and still has a contract until 2028. So, the Giallorossi are likely to demand a sizable amount of money if they are forced to sell him.

The African is a left-footed centre-back and is comfortable playing out from the back. The 26-year-old is currently at the prime stage of his career, so he might be a shrewd acquisition for Man Utd to add depth to the defence should they eventually opt to sign him this summer.
