Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly confident of signing Manchester City forward Savinho, as per The Athletic.
After enjoying a stellar campaign with Girona, the 22-year-old joined the Citizens a couple of years ago. However, he has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League thus far.
The Brazilian showed glimpses of his qualities during his debut campaign at the Etihad Stadium, making 14 goal contributions across all competitions.
However, he failed to break into Pep Guardiola’s starting line-up last term, commencing only 11 matches across the Champions League and Premier League.
Following Guardiola’s departure, Enzo Maresca has been appointed as the new Man City manager, and Savinho has displayed promising performances under the Italian during these pre-season matches.
Now, The Athletic report that Tottenham are interested in reinforcing the frontline by purchasing Savinho and are confident of finalising the operation.
However, with the new campaign less than two weeks away, Tottenham aren’t close to signing him yet. Apart from the South American, Spurs are also interested in Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo.
Savinho to Tottenham
Having recently tied Savinho down to a fresh term until 2031, Man City aren’t in any rush to sell him this summer, with the player valued at around £30m by Transfermarkt.
Tottenham currently have Mathys Tel, Wilson Odobert, Dejan Kulusevski and Mohammed Kudus as options to deploy on the flanks. However, Kulusevski has been out injured for over a year, while Odobert is set to remain sidelined for an extended period due to a serious knee issue.
Kudus has also been struggling with fitness problems for several months. So, Tel is the only available winger Roberto De Zerbi currently has at his disposal, and the Frenchman has displayed promising performances during these pre-season games.
Savinho is a talented player and possesses high potential. He is a versatile forward as he is comfortable on either flank. He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and also works hard without possession.
Therefore, the South American would be a shrewd acquisition for Tottenham should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to secure his services before the start of next season.
