Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing LOSC Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo, as per TEAMtalk.
After moving to Stade Pierre Mauroy from KAA Gent a couple of years ago, the 21-year-old initially took time to settle into his new surroundings.
However, he established himself as a regular starter last campaign, scoring eight goals and registering six assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. Moreover, he helped his side qualify for next season’s Champions League by finishing third in Ligue 1.
Having been impressed by his performances for Lille, Rudi Garcia selected him in Belgium’s World Cup squad. However, he struggled to break into the starting line-up.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Tottenham have identified Manchester City star Savinho as the primary target to reinforce the frontline and have been negotiating with the Citizens over this deal for several weeks.
However, an agreement hasn’t been reached between the two sides. So, Savinho and Tottenham have become frustrated with the current situation.
Spurs have already started exploring alternative options and have earmarked Fernandez-Pardo as a serious option due to his ability to play centrally or on the flanks.
Fernandez-Pardo to Tottenham
The report state that Man City want Fernandez-Pardo as a potential option to replace Savinho if he ultimately moves to North London. Moreover, Atletico Madrid have launched a formal £30m proposal to sign him.
However, with Lille close to selling Ayyoub Bouaddi for around £86m, they don’t need to sell Fernandez-Pardo this summer as well. But they would be ready to let him leave for below £34m.
TEAMtalk report that Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have previously held talks to learn about the details of signing him, and they have been made aware of Los Rojiblancos’ bid.
Fernandez-Pardo is a talented young player and could become a top-class forward in the future. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Tottenham should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Spurs currently have Mathys Tel, Wilson Odobert, Dejan Kulusevski and Mohammed Kudus as options to deploy on the flanks. On the other hand, Dominic Solanke and Richarlison are striker options.
