Man Utd eye move to sign Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae, as per German football expert Christian Falk.
After being impressed by the 29-year-old’s performances for Fenerbahce, Napoli decided to purchase him back in 2022. He enjoyed a promising debut campaign in Serie A, helping his side win the league title.
Moreover, in 45 appearances across all competitions, the South Korean made four goal contributions and kept 17 clean sheets.
Having been attracted by him, the Bavarian club purchased him in 2023. He has enjoyed great success at the Allianz Arena, winning two Bundesliga titles and a few domestic cup competitions.
However, he has mainly featured as a rotational option under Vincent Kompany. Still, he has continued to be a regular starter for the South Korean national team.
Now, Falk reports on his website, FC Bayern Insider, that Man Utd are interested in signing Kim to reinforce the backline. But the defender doesn’t want to leave the German giants and is prepared to fight for his place in the first-team.
Bayern Munich are even happy to keep hold of him, with his existing deal set to run until 2028. The former Napoli star is valued at around £17m by Transfermarkt.
Kim to Man Utd
Kim is a 6ft 3in tall right-footed centre-back. He is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, and is efficient in defensive contributions.
The Bayern Munich man is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. Therefore, he might be a shrewd short-term acquisition for Man Utd should they purchase him for a reasonable price.
However, United already have Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Ayden Heaven and Lisandro Martínez as options to deploy in the centre-back positions.
Moreover, academy youngster Dan Armer is emerging, and he has impressed during the pre-season matches. So, Man Utd don’t need to add further depth to this position unless anyone leaves.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Old Trafford club eventually make a concrete approach to secure the South Korean international’s services before the September 1st transfer deadline day.
