Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans have already joined Manchester United so far in the summer transfer window but Michael Carrick is thought to be keen on another addition in his engine room to improve his squad depth.
French outlet Foot Mercato (h/t GiveMeSport) has reported that AS Monaco star Lamine Camara remains firmly on the Red Devils’ radar and they have now established formal contact in an attempt to sign the player.
Goal has added that Camara was of interest to Crystal Palace recently, whereas a number of Premier League clubs continue to monitor him beside United. The 22-year-old is valued at £51 million by Monaco ahead of a possible sale this summer.
While two new midfielders would have been enough for Man United in an ideal environment given that they also have Kobbie Mainoo in their setup, interest in Camara comes after Manuel Ugarte’s injury, which requires a lengthy time on the sidelines.
Camara a solid addition for Man United
If Manchester United are successful in their pursuit of Lamine Camara, it will be interesting to see what kind of a role the Senegalese international has at Old Trafford and how Michael Carrick tweaks his setup to fit him into the playing eleven.
Camara is very confident and composed with the ball at his feet, especially proving handy in tight areas and against low blocks, due to his close control, vision to pass through the opposition’s lines and press resistance.
The AS Monaco star is also very good with delivering set-pieces and has a powerful long shot, which helps him contribute to the output in the final third. His tenacity in duels and stamina mean he is capable of influencing control in the middle of the park.
Lamine Camara will have the opportunity to play in the Champions League next season with Manchester United, contrary to the case if he joins some of his other interested parties. That said, how important a role he is offered would go a long way in determining where he chooses to ply his trade too.
