Tottenham Hotspur hoping to sign Cody Gakpo from Liverpool for £50 million

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to rebuild their attack in what remains of the summer transfer window having spent a significant amount of money on rebuilding their defence and midfield after a couple of lacklustre Premier League seasons.
Liverpool star Cody Gakpo has been high on their shortlist of forward and as per Voetbal International, the player and the Lilywhites already have an agreement in place regarding personal terms.
Dutch source AD has reported that Spurs are hopeful of completing Gakpo’s signing in the very near future as they seek an agreement with the Reds over a £50 million transfer fee.
Earlier in the summer, Gakpo was priced at £70 million but with Liverpool looking to raise funds and free up some space in their squad for Bradley Barcola’s transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, there may be room for negotiation over the Dutchman’s sale.
Gakpo would thrive under De Zerbi
Cody Gakpo had a mixed season at Liverpool but a new start to life at Tottenham Hotspur could help him regain his form after a fairly decent World Cup with the Netherlands in North America this year.
Roberto De Zerbi might be able to get the best out of the left winger as he gives his wide attackers the flexibility to play closer to the box during the game, which might benefit the 27-year-old’s attributes.
Gakpo is a powerful ball-striker, does well to dribble past attackers to get into scoring position and is also able to stretch defences by playing closer to the byline, which will allow him to offer Tottenham some tactical freedom too.
He played in Liverpool’s friendly against Como last week but whether Andoni Iraola will count on the forward for the Reds’ Premier League opener this weekend remains to be seen as Spurs hope to close out a transfer sooner rather than later.
