Manchester United remain hopeful about signing Arsenal star Myles Lewis-Skelly

Manchester United’s purchase of Carlos Baleba from Brighton & Hove Albion means their midfield revamp is now complete and they could spend the remainder of the transfer window looking to revamp other positions with left back likely to be a priority.

Arsenal star Myles Lewis-Skelly has been linked with a swoop to Old Trafford lately alongside Barcelona youngster Alejandro Balde and Newcastle United full back Lewis Hall as Michael Carrick seeks a long-term option at the back.

On that note, The Sun has reported that the Red Devils are hopeful that they can secure Lewis-Skelly’s signing from the Gunners by the end of the month despite Mikel Arteta’s public message that the teenager will remain put at the club.

In a bid to drive away suitors, Arsenal have slapped the 19-year-old with a price tag upwards of £50 million, as per the source, but with the transfer window approaching its end, Lewis-Skelly’s services are likely to command an even higher premium.

Lewis-Skelly signing a tall order for United

Should Manchester United be successful in their attempt to sign Myles Lewis-Skelly from Arsenal, they would have made a terrific signing as the Englishman is a player they can entrust across multiple roles on the pitch.

Naturally a left back, he can play as a wing-back and as a central midfielder too. His composure on the ball, physique and passing make him a terrific player to have in a defensive setup, whether that is in the back four or the engine room.

Having said that, it is a very unlikely proposition that Manchester United would be able to secure his services as the 19-year-old is not only part of Arsenal’s immediate plans but a key figure in their long-term strategy too, so selling him to a rival is not expected to be an idea they entertain.
