Liverpool offered the chance to sign Dani Carvajal

Liverpool have reportedly been offered the chance to sign former Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal, as per TEAMtalk.

Since Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, the Reds’ right-back position have been in a state of flux over the last 12 months.

They purchased Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen to replace Alexander-Arnold, but the Dutchman has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League.

On the other hand, Conor Bradley has been out injured over the last few months. So, former Liverpool boss Arne Slot used Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones as auxiliary right-backs last term.

However, Jones has joined Inter Milan this summer. Liverpool have signed Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona, and he can provide cover in the right-back position, although he is a centre-back by trait.

Now, TEAMtalk claim that Liverpool assess their options for experienced defensive cover and have been offered the chance to sign Carvajal by intermediaries, with the 34-year-old keen to continue playing football, rather than retiring.

Apart from the Gunners, Manchester City have also received the opportunity to secure his services, but Fulham are showing an interest in him, having endured a disappointing start this season.

Carvajal to Liverpool

The report state that having worked together at Real Madrid, Álvaro Arbeloa knows Carvajal very well and is willing to reunite with him at Craven Cottage.

After coming through Los Blancos’ famous La Fábrica academy, Carvajal joined Bayer Leverkusen to play regularly and develop his career.

Having been impressed by his performances at BayArena, the Spanish giants decided to re-sign him in 2013, and he enjoyed great success at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu over the last 13 years.

He won four La Liga titles, six Champions League trophies and numerous other major cup competitions. Moreover, he lifted the Nations League and European Championship with Spain.

However, after leaving Real Madrid at the end of last campaign, he is currently a free agent. Carvajal is an experienced player and could be a shrewd short-term acquisition for Liverpool should they sign him.

But it is going to be interesting to see whether the Merseyside club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services over the coming days.
