Chelsea & Liverpool interested in signing Tom Atcheson

Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Blackburn Rovers defender Tom Atcheson, as per TEAMtalk.
After coming through The Blue and Whites’ youth system, the 19-year-old made his first-team debut in 2023. However, he initially struggled to break into the starting line-up, so he joined Marine AFC a couple of years ago to play regularly and develop his career.
Upon returning, he featured as a rotational option last term before playing regularly this campaign. The youngster has made five appearances across all competitions thus far.
Having shown glimpses of his high potential at Edwood Park, the defender made his senior international debut for Northern Ireland earlier this year.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Atcheson’s recent development hasn’t gone unnoticed, as he has started attracting a lot of attention from the Premier League’s elite clubs.
Chelsea made an approach to sign him this summer, while Manchester City, Liverpool, Newcastle United, Sunderland and Crystal Palace enquired about his availability.
Moreover, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur previously kept a close eye on him. However, Blackburn Rovers refused to let him leave before the deadline and are moving to tie him down to a fresh long-term contract to keep the vultures away.

Still, the report state that Liverpool remain keen on him, while Chelsea’s ownership group BlueCo continue to monitor young talents and are interested in Atcheson.
On the other hand, Newcastle, Sunderland and Palace have all held talks to learn about the details of finalising the operation next year.
Atcheson is a 6ft 3in tall, right-footed, versatile defender as he is a centre-back by trait but can provide cover in the right-back position if needed. He is quick, comfortable playing out from the back, can play threading passes between the lines, and reads the game well.
Atcheson is a talented young defender and possesses high potential. Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Chelsea or Liverpool with a view to the long-term future should either club purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the West London club or the Merseyside club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services.
