Arsenal have commenced the Premier League season with three wins in as many outings and have picked up where they left off last season in the English top flight, as they remain firm favourites to secure the title this year too.
Despite their perfect start to the campaign, one of the glaring details has been Mikel Arteta’s lack of faith in Viktor Gyokeres, with the manager opting in favour of Kai Havertz as his striker in all three league fixtures so far.
Fichajes has reported that the Gunners are now pondering over the addition of another striker as early as in January, and a £103 million bid is being lined up to sign Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid to bolster the final third.
On a related note, Gyokeres’ exit was discussed internally in the summer, as per Ben Jacobs, and while nothing came of it, the Swede might consider his future in the winter if he remains second fiddle at the Emirates Stadium over the next few months.
Swap deal an attractive option
Earlier in the summer, it had emerged that Arsenal were prepared to offer Viktor Gyokeres to Atletico Madrid to drive down Julian Alvarez’s price, and that may continue to be a viable option next year in the winter as well.
How much value Diego Simeone sees in Gyokeres as a possible replacement for Alvarez remains to be seen, as well as if Atletico are open to letting the player leave midway through the season following a summer-long saga over his future.
If Arsenal succeed in their attempt to sign Alvarez, they would have secured a consistent goal-scorer and chance creator, who works hard without the ball and is very intelligent with his movement in the final third to trouble opposition defences.
Julian Alvarez’s experience in the Premier League with Manchester City, where he won the title, will be a key factor in the club prioritising a swoop for the Argentine international too, and all signs point towards him being a solid addition for Arsenal.
Whether Alvarez will be open to joining Arsenal next year or remains firm on his Barcelona dream will be interesting to see.
