Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are in battle over a deal to sign highly rated Germany U21 international centre-forward Nicolo Tresoldi from Club Brugge, as per TEAMtalk.
Tresoldi has emerged as one of the most exciting attacking prospects in Europe across the last two seasons. He began his formative years in Germany, coming through the academy setup at Hannover, where he made 79 appearances, scoring 14 goals and providing six assists across all competitions.
His displays attracted the interest of Brugge, who, in their renowned youth-driven recruitment fashion, signed him last summer.
Since he arrived at the Jan Breydel Stadium, he has provided 37 goal contributions, including 19 in the Jupiler Pro League last season, to win the league’s top scorer award. He also played a pivotal role in the Belgian club’s domestic double triumph, which has led to keen interest in his signature.
Tresoldi has also extended his prolific form into the ongoing campaign, netting five goals in seven games already, and it’s no surprise several English top clubs, including Man Utd and Tottenham, are showing interest in him.
This is according to TEAMtalk, which claims that the Premier League duo were present at Brugge’s Jan Breydel Stadium on Tuesday to watch Tresoldi in action against Aston Villa.
Prolific forward
For United, the report adds that the 13-time Premier League champions have earmarked the Italian-born Germany U21 international as a potential replacement for Joshua Zirkzee should he depart the club.
The Red Devils also evaluated Brugge’s left-back Joaquin Seys during their trip to Belgium, having enquired about him in the recently concluded summer transfer window, according to the report.
On the other hand, TEAMtalk reports that Tottenham have placed Tresoldi on their radar and were present on Tuesday to carry out further checks on the 6ft 1in centre-forward.
Spurs’ interest in the German is pursued by the head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who is keen on bolstering his attack following Richarlison’s exclusion from the club’s Premier League squad, the report adds.
Looking at Tresoldi’s statistics this season, it is evident why United and Tottenham are vying for his signature.
Aside from his five goals in seven games, he has made 15 fast breaks since the beginning of the season, indicating his reliability in fast-paced, transitional counter-attacking football, while his 50.93% ranks highest among any Brugge player to score ten or more goals since last season.
Tresoldi would be a good fit for Man Utd and Tottenham’s attack, so it’ll be interesting to see which of the duo will sign him from Brugge, who are likely to demand a fee well above his £21m Transfermarkt valuation.
