Ekrem Konur has reported that the Gunners are pondering over a swoop for Paris Saint-Germain central defender Willian Pacho, who was instrumental to the Ligue 1 outfit winning consecutive Champions League titles under Luis Enrique.
Besides Arsenal, there is also interest from Manchester City in the Ecuadorian international’s services, according to the journalist, with the 24-year-old valued at £69 million on Transfermarkt and a contract at PSG that runs until June 2031.
Superb signing for Arsenal but proposition remains unlikely
Over recent months, Willian Pacho has emerged as one of the best central defenders in the world and has leveraged his partnership with Marquinhos to develop himself into an all-round player at the back.
Pacho has excellent mobility despite a height of over six feet, fast recovery speed and strong tackling as well as physical prowess. He is sound with the ball at his feet and has a wide range of passing to build up from the back.
However, it remains to be seen if Arsenal are indeed willing to compete with Manchester City for the Paris Saint-Germain star’s transfer, which will cost them a significant amount of money, especially on a position where they have great quality already.
Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba are both very good, long-term options and Ezri Konsa’s signing has consolidated their depth in central defence, which might see the Gunners concentrate on signing offensive options rather than defenders.
