Predicted Liverpool line-up against Tottenham Hotspur

Liverpool are set to host Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield in the Carabao Cup third-round fixture tonight.
Although the Reds won the Premier League title under Arne Slot during the 2024/25 campaign, they endured a dire season last term. So, they decided to part ways with the Dutchman this summer, and Andoni Iraola has been appointed as the new manager.
However, Liverpool have displayed inconsistent performances thus far this campaign, winning only one out of four Premier League games. They are currently eighth in the table with six points.
On the other hand, Tottenham have had a difficult start this season, failing to score a goal in the Premier League so far. They have reached the third round of the EFL Cup after thrashing Charlton Athletic 5-1 last month.
Team news
Joe Gomez has been sidelined since picking up an injury in pre-season, but he has returned to full fitness and is ready to be involved tonight.
However, Conor Bradley, Federico Chiesa, Hugo Ekitike and Giovanni Leoni aren’t in contention to feature in this game owing to their respective injury problems.
Cody Gakpo was unavailable for selection vs Atletico Madrid in the opening Champions League fixture last week due to a minor problem but returned to action against Fulham. So, he should be fit enough to play tonight.
Predicted line-up
Alisson Becker has been an undisputed starter in goal for Liverpool, but Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to get the nod to start in this Carabao Cup encounter.
Iraola is expected to deploy Ronald Araujo in the centre-back position alongside Virgil Van Dijk, with Jeremie Frimpong and Kostas Tsimikas likely to be the two fullbacks. In that case, Jeremy Jacquet and Milos Kerkez might be among the substitutes.
Trey Nyoni could commence in the deep-lying playmaker position, and Alexis Mac Allister should be in the box-to-box role for the hosts. Florian Wirtz may keep hold of his place in the CAM role; therefore, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch are likely to feature as substitutes if needed.
Rio Ngumoha and Victor Muñoz are expected to be the two wingers, while Gakpo could get the nod to start in the No.9 position for Liverpool. So, Bradley Barcola and Alexander Isak might get a midweek rest.
Expected Liverpool line-up vs Tottenham
Mamardashvili; Frimpong, Araujo, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Nyoni, Mac Allister, Wirtz; Muñoz, Gakpo, Ngumoha
