Tottenham interested in signing Mauro Icardi

mauro icardi

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Mauro Icardi, as per a recent Italian report.

Following Dominic Solanke’s fitness problems last term, the Lilywhites have decided to reinforce the striker position by signing Omar Marmoush this summer. The Egyptian has joined on loan from Manchester City with an obligation to make the move permanent next year.

However, the 27-year-old isn’t a natural striker and has had a tough start under Roberto De Zerbi, failing to make any goal contributions in four appearances across all competitions.

Other than him and Solanke, Spurs currently have Richarlison as a No.9 option, but De Zerbi has made it clear that the Brazilian won’t play this season.

Solanke, on the other hand, has failed to showcase his best for Tottenham since joining from AFC Bournemouth a couple of years ago. Spurs haven’t been able to score a goal in four Premier League matches thus far this season. As a result, it appears De Zerbi is considering signing a new striker.

Cronache di Spogliatoio report that (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Tottenham are interested in adding a new experienced striker to address the goal-scoring issues and have identified Icardi as a serious option.

After running his contract down with Galatasaray, the Argentinian is currently available as a free agent. Therefore, Tottenham can sign him immediately.

The report state that apart from Tottenham, Lazio are also interested in him, but he wants to join an ambitious project. So, he has already turned down several offers.

Icardi to Tottenham

The 33-year-old has experience of playing at the highest level, having previously played for Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain. Moreover, he won four Super Lig titles and a couple of domestic cup competitions with Galatasaray over the last few years.

Last season, the South American scored 15 goals and registered two assists in 44 appearances across all competitions. He is a talented player and would add depth to the squad should Tottenham sign him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services.

Meanwhile, following a disappointing defeat vs Liverpool in midweek, Tottenham are set to face Aston Villa in the Premier League this weekend.
