Liverpool have expressed interest in signing highly rated Venezuelan fullback Jon Aramburu from Real Sociedad, according to TEAMtalk.
With Conor Bradley still recovering from the serious injury he sustained last season, Jeremie Frimpong is currently Andoni Iraola’s only senior specialist right-back.
The Dutchman has not been entirely convincing so far, leading Andoni Iraola to explore personnel changes in that position.
For instance, in the 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest, the manager drafted Dominik Szoboszlai in the later stages of the game, while summer signing Ronald Araujo started at right back against Fulham. The Uruguayan also started at right back in the 1-0 win over Bournemouth last Sunday, while Frimpong was left on the bench for the entire duration of the game.

Now, according to TEAMtalk, Liverpool have joined several clubs to express interest in signing highly rated Venezuelan right back Aramburu from Sociedad.
The report adds that the Merseyside giants have been closely monitoring the 24-year-old and have been hugely impressed by his profile, with his defensive solidity and versatility standing out as his key strengths.
With four years left on his contract at the Reale Arena, Sociedad will likely demand a significant fee for Aramburu, and it’s no surprise TEAMtalk claims that the San Sabiastian outfit have placed a £50m release clause on the Venezuelan.
‘Phenomenal’ fullback
However, Liverpool are set to face fierce competition from Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Everton, and Fulham in the race for Aramburu, according to the report.
Looking at Aramburu’s statistics in LaLiga this season, it is evident why Liverpool are vying for the defensive ace.
He has started all seven games for Sociedad this season and has particularly stood out for his on-ball qualities. He has recorded a sky-high 86.2% successful passes, and his marauding, bursting-forward runs have seen him record 7.7% successful crosses per 90 minutes.
Aramburu is also a reliable outlet during buildup, transitioning play and beating his man to create chances, as evidenced in his 66.7% successful dribbles.
Off the ball, he has won 53.4% of his ground duels, and despite standing at just 5ft 9in, he shows a remarkable leap to win 63.4% of his aerial duels this season.
Described as ‘phenomenal’ by South American football journalist Nathan Joyes, Aramburu will undoubtedly hand Iraola his own version of Adam Smith, but whether Liverpool are willing to meet Sociedad’s £50m valuation remains to be seen.
