Manchester United have suffered a huge injury blow, with Marcus Rashford, Benjamin Sesko and Kobbie Mainoo set to withdraw from the national squad.
Having finished third in the Premier League last campaign, the Red Devils revamped the engine room this summer to continue the rebuild under Michael Carrick.
They purchased Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba from Chelsea, Aston Villa and Brighton and Hove Albion, respectively. However, United have endured a dire start this season.
Although they won the opening Champions League encounter against Sabah, Carrick’s side were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by the Seagulls last week.
On the other hand, Man Utd are currently languishing 12th in the Premier League table with five points from as many matches. They have won only one league game thus far.
Amid this situation, Man Utd have suffered a triple injury blow as, on The Athletic, David Ornstein reports that Rashford and Mainoo picked up injuries against Fulham; as a result, they are set to be withdrawn from the England squad.
Sesko was out over the last few months due to a shin injury and returned to action recently. However, Manchester Evening News state that he felt pain once again in the shin area after being taken off against Brighton last weekend.
Triple injury blow
As a result, he wasn’t available against the Cottagers and is set to be assessed by United’s medical department to understand the extent of his problem. So, he has also been withdrawn from the Slovenia squad.
After moving to Old Trafford from RB Leipzig, Sesko has had several fitness problems. So, he has found it difficult to establish himself as a regular starter.
On the other hand, since returning from his loan spell with Barcelona, Rashford has been playing regularly under Carrick. But he hasn’t been able to showcase his best thus far.
Mainoo, meanwhile, has been an undisputed starter in Carrick’s starting line-up and has shown glimpses of his qualities despite United’s poor performances this season.
The United fans will be hoping that Sesko, Rashford and Mainoo’s injuries are not serious and that the trio will be able to return after the long international break.
